Designing

This puppet was designed to represent an abstraction of a Pit pony, animals that worked underground in mines. The body is a heavy coal dram pulled along by a delicate paper head. The head was designed to be hand held to provide the puppeteer maximum control over it, to allow expression and emotion through the movement. The handle is inside the head.

Making

The puppet was created using Papier-mâché newsprint onto a paper form built onto a card template.
